I have been planning road trips all over the country for over a decade. Not to toot my own horn but I would have to say I am pretty darn good at it!
I’m all about mapping out the best possible routes to save time, money and jam packing it with the must dos within a specific time frame.
This trip is still one of my favorites. I’ve never seen so many waterfalls in such a short distance in my entire life!
I have mapped out the perfect four-day road trip to some of the most beautiful State Parks I have ever been too! If you’re a lover of waterfalls like me then you absolutely have to take this road trip! The best part, it’s also DOG FRIENDLY!
It’s difficult to plan good hiking road trips with pets in certain areas. Often, the best trails don’t allow pets which I understand the reasoning. This road trip was planned specifically for my dog Watson and my brothers dog Jack in mind. I wanted to take them on some epic hikes… not just though some dense wooded trails. If your a pet owner you know what I mean.
Up State NY you have over exceeded my expectations! Now let’s dive into the fun stuff! I created a summary for each park. To view, just click on each one for more photos and all the details you must know before going!
I have only seen Niagara Falls from the NY side, so I was excited to see them in Canada. I must admit; they are much more beautiful on the Canadian side but recommend both if you are ever close by.
This was the perfect one hour pit stop before we continued our drive. Click here to see our full experience.
Known as the Grand Canyon of the East. There are three major waterfalls at this park. The park is 17-miles long with over 66-miles of hiking trails.
This was my favorite park of all! It was the perfect 3-mile loop walking along the Gorge Trail with several waterfalls, cascades and mossy stone steps.
Though we only had a couple hours here it was beautiful! The park has 12 waterfalls, moderate hike, sets of stone staircases and an elevation change of over 500 feet.
However… something I didn’t expect happend and you should know about it before you visit!
DAY FOUR – Taughannock Falls State Park
Highest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains reaching 215-feet. Did the short .75-mile hike here before heading home.
WATKINS GLEN STATE PARK
Though I visited this park on another trip, I recommend stopping by here as well! It’s the most famous and highly visited of all the Finger Lake Parks. You most likly have seen this place on social media one time or another. However, the Gorge Trail does not allow pets its still worth going!
Let me know if this helped you plan your road trip! I would love to hear from you! Comment below, Pin, share and subscribe to stay up to date on my latest adventures!
