We drove the rest of the way to Key West from Key Largo. I forgot how awesome seven mile bridge was. Once we hit mile marker 47 it was nothing but you, two bridges and water on both sides for seven straight miles. It’s known to be one of the most iconic drives in the US stated by National Geographic.
We spent the last three nights of our road trip here in Key West. Check out below to see where we stayed, what we did and where we ate!
WHERE TO STAY
The Inn at key west
Doing some quick searching on the way down we reserved a room at “The Inn At Key West”. They have the largest pool in all of Key West! Staying in Key West can be expensive especially booking it the day of. Staying just out side the main tourist area saved us a lot.
One of the days poured down rain. Rather then trying to stay dry we decided to embrace the rain and enjoy the pool, tiki bar and some pina-colada’s.
What to do
Visit the most southern point in the continental US
We walked miles and miles exploring through neighborhoods and headed to the most southern tip.
We decided to hitch a local ride back to the main quarters on a bike taxi.
Take a city tour by train
The world famous Conch Tour Trains offer fun relaxing way to see the best sites and learn the history of Key West. Unfortunately, we didn’t go for a ride but I heard great things!
Take a Run or stroll around town
Ron got me to run six miles one morning. I saw the cutest little bug!
We found our last name while running!
Walk Duval St. and surrounding areas
We walked into nearly every store checking out what they had to offer.
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not had a lot of fun facts!
Have a drink at the worlds smallest barWalk to mile 0Watch the Sunset on Sunset pier
Watch street performers at night
Where to eat
It is quite easy to eat six+ times a day in Key West because every where you turn the food smells and looks delicious!
Our first night here we tried out “Two Friends Patio Restaurant.” They had a large menu and fun live music. We shared everything to try a variety and loved it.
We walked here from our hotel since it was right across the street. They are famous for there stoned crab. We didn’t end up trying any but the reviews make it sounds fantastic. An interesting fact; Key West makes up 40% of all Florida’s overall stoned crab harvest! I got the fish tacos and stoned crab bisque which was to die for!
Six years ago Ron and I celebrated my 21st birthday here so it was awesome to bring my mom here to celebrate her 50th Birthday! We had there famous frozen drinks filled with grain alcohol. They are dangerously good because you can’t taste the alcohol and you want to try every one! This was the first time I have ever sat at a bar with my mom!
Key lime pie is the official state pie as of 2006. We were curious why everywhere offered the pie. The history dates back to the 1800’s! Check out the history here. None of us are really pie eaters let alone ones that taste like lime. We had to try one though so I did some research. I came across Kermit’s shoppe and saw they offered frozen key lime cheese cake dipped in chocolate! Just thinking about it now makes my mouth water! It seriously was one of the most amazing deserts I have ever had and highly recommend you must try it!
Just outside Kermit’s shoppe was this restaurant. We made it easy and tried it out. I loved the vibes of this place. There was people everywhere, live music and good times being had all around. To change it up a bit Ron had a great idea. He had our waiter choose our meals for us. We had no idea what we were going to get. Nothing looked disappointing on the menu so we trusted him. Boy was he on point! Everything was so flavorful. Im going to trust in our servers more often, it was fun!
We totally forgot to stop here while in Key West but I thought I should share because for one I am a desert lover and felt it is my duty to share and two I want you to try it and tell me how it is! I hope to go back soon just to try this place.
