I’ve heard many times over that your wedding day is one of the greatest days of your life and now that I am married, I am here to tell you that it is so incredibly true!
May 30th, 2015 was by far the greatest day of my life thus far (sounds cliché but it’s true). Not only did I get to marry my best friend that I’ve known since 14 years old, I was surrounded with the greatest friends, dogs and family at one of the most beautiful places in Michigan!
Ron and I wanted a non-traditional wedding. We wanted a venue where we could stay more than one day to enjoy ourselves with all our friends and family especially since a lot of our friends traveled from all over the country as far as Hawaii! We fell upon the most perfect place on the coast of Lake Michigan called, Camp Blodgett in West Olive Michigan, only three hours from home. It’s a camp for kids. They also rent out the whole Loeks Retreat Center and the grounds including the rustic bunk bed cabins! The money we spend goes directly to the camp to help keep it running, WIN WIN!
Take a look and read all the insider details of how incredibly amazing this day was from saying “I do,” to the people, views, and DYI of it all! I get so getty every single time I look! The memories rush back as if it were yesterday.
It’s always a given that something will be FORGOTTEN, when trying to remember everything for a destination wedding. Thankfully, the only thing we forgot was my matching robe! My Matron of Honor, Kayla was so sweet and went on a hunt to find me a robe, and it was perfect.
Two years before I even got engaged I saved this exact dress to my, “Maybe Someday” board on Pinterest. Never in a million years would I have thought I could find it, let alone wear it on my wedding day! It was truly a dream come true when we found it!
We bought our flowers in bulk and made our own bouquets the night before. My MOH is so talented she put mine together and made my hair piece! It could not have been any more perfect!
I wanted to hear Rons voice hoping he would calm my nerves with his witty jokes so I wouldn’t cry going down the isle!
Tying up all the girls dresses in their own unique way.
Every anniversary from now until eternity we will take a photo together on this bench. Can’t wait to watch us grow old together and our family grow!
In remembrance of my grandparents who are no longer with us we used there wedding cake toper as inspiration. They are the definition of what true love is with 50+ years of marriage. They both were a huge influence in my life. My amazing cousin made us the cakes. These paper plates were my inspiration for the whole wedding decor!
Ron made the birch tree center pieces. We went on an adventure and found the perfect trees, cut and drilled for tea light candles. We painted baby food jars and made them into mini flower vases . All together making it simple yet elegant and nearly FREE!
My beautiful mother, telling me its nearly time.
Remember me saying I did not want to cry… well that didn’t happen. The second I saw Ron I teared up… a lot.
This is the last time Ron has the upper hand she says, lol!I made us a wine box. We placed the bottle of wine that my mom got us with letters to each other inside. We will open and share five years from now or if times get really tough before those five years we will open and enjoy together.
My favorite moment just realizing he is MY HUSBAND!Our amazing bridal party! If anyone knows our dog Watson they know he’s a mamas boy and knows when photos are about to be taken. He, NO JOKE walked up and laid right in front of us without even asking!
We made the arch, everything free besides a can of window foam! Kayla and I stopped on the side of the road and cut these beautiful greens which fit perfect for our arch! It decided to rain so we rented a tent last minute. We didn’t mind because everything else still turned out perfect! Still so thankful for everyone who put this all together!
I get to kiss this beautiful man for the rest of my life!
This photo is one of my favorites. Ron was saying something really silly and this was my reaction. I LOVE candid moments. No idea I even did that, lol!
My girlfriend said some things I won’t repeat but made me, LOL!!Watson wanted to give a speech of his own. So incredibly thankful Camp Blodgett allowed us to have him stay the long weekend. It meant the world to me. How often do you get to say your dog hung out at your wedding reception!?Watson is always there to clean up our messes.
I loved his long hair! Our wedding song was Frank Turner, the way I tend to be.
Nothing like a first dance with my fur baby! Our photographers left before sunset but my friend Kate captured a couple photos on her phone! The rain stopped and the sun came out making it one of the most beautiful memoriable sunsets I have ever seen! These are just one of those moments where pictures can not do it justice!
After sunset we spent the rest of the night dancing our hearts out, playing in the photo booth, making S’mores, and mingling with the ones we love!
We did a fake send off because… well… we weren’t going anywhere and it was just a blast to run through sparklers! Thanks to our friend Andy for capturing these moments and a few others thoughout this post.
We then had a fire on the beach and stayed up till nearly sunrise! We clearly did not want the day to ever end! Thank you all for making this the most perfect weekend of my life!
Cheers to a wonderful life together babe!
