HI! I’m Samantha, a Michigan girl with an undying lust for travel and exploration.  Don’t get me wrong though, I love coming home to my roots.  I’m slightly obsessed with health and fitness, but that doesn’t stop me from devouring a tub of ice cream at the end of the day.

I don’t like being tied down to one place for long, and I have shaped my entire life around that.  I knew it would be hard to work a normal job and feed my hunger for travel, so I did what I do best and detoured from the beaten path.  It may sound simple but it hasn’t always been easy for me.  I have struggled, but that struggle has given me endless opportunities to live this life I love.

I made this as a space where I can creatively express the whole journey, not just the destinations.  These are the raw moments, good and bad, behind my photos where I can bring the whole story to life.  With that said, I want this blog to be useful to YOU, a tool you can use for trip planning and inspiration.

I hope to inspire you to unleash your inner wanderlust and live a life you love!

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

My love for travel started at a young age. As a little girl, I remember loving simple car rides. Fast-forward to middle school and I signed up for choir, not because I had the talent to sing (I definitely didn’t!) but because they took a yearly trip out of state. After high school, I dreamt of becoming a travel nurse. As much as I loved helping others, I realized nursing was not my calling.

It took me a year and a half to realize something I always knew. The norm was not for me. There I was, 19 and a college dropout, still itching to travel.

After taking most my pre-recs in college I once again decided to change routes. I knew I loved taking care of myself so I decided to go to beauty school to get my esthetician license, get a job on a cruise ship and travel the world. I completed my 900 hours, took my state exam and passed! Shortly after I also started dating my long time friend, and now husband, Ron.  Ron was a traveling BMX performer and just starting an event business, so he was already pretty well traveled.

Our first trip together was right after I passed my esthetician exam; a 3-week road trip to the west coast. Before this trip I had only gone to 4 states, yes 4.  After 3 weeks I knew a couple things for sure, I loved Ron, and I didn’t want to see the world without him. I got a job in a bar, making easy cash to save for traveling and investing for my future.

Ron and I both grew up pretty poor and we both value experience more than possessions.  For us, it was natural to save for the future and live below our means.  This allowed us to take cool trips on the cheap and save for a home.  The real estate market tanked where we grew up so we were able to buy our first home for $35,000! This wasn’t a beautiful home by any means, but we devoted an entire summer to remodeling it ourselves. After that we decided to buy another home and make it a rental. We enjoyed it so much, fast forward to today, and it’s what I do full time. Ron helps and also runs his event business.  I am now a Real Estate agent and investor with several rental properties.  Since back then I have managed to travel to 49 US states, 15 countries and counting.

Since I have my roots here in Michigan, I don’t travel 24/7. I have managed to create a balanced life that allows me to full fill my dreams of traveling and exploring Earth’s beautiful landscapes and unique cultures with so much adventure in between. Through my passions I hope to inspire your inner wanderlust and prove that it is possible to have a balanced life. You don’t have to sell everything you have, shut the door behind you and buy a one way ticket to be a world traveler.  Small steps will help you achieve the life you want, I just hope to encourage you to take the first one.
